Week 4

I haven’t been yo-yoing much this week so I have been getting worse at yo-yoing. The string of my yo-yo also gets tight way too quickly when I’m yo-yoing and it makes it harder to do any of the tricks. I have also been trying to do around the world/forward pass but the yo-yo can’t get enough power. It’s been frustrating because I was able to do it before, but I can’t do it anymore. I was planning to take a video of all the tricks that I learned but I can’t do that because I can’t do the more advanced tricks anymore. Even the sleeper, which took me a single day to learn the first time, I can only do some of the time. This night I am going to do as much yo-yoing as possible in order to try to relearn the tricks I had already learnt.

Week 3

I haven’t had very much time this weekend to practice yo-yoing. I got in as much practice as I could to perfect the moves I already learned but I haven’t worked on any new ones. This Monday my elbow was getting a bit sore from yo-yoing a lot throughout these past few weeks.

Week 2

I got a new yo-yo called a Yomega Fireball. It’s a ball bearing yo-yo and I’m able to do all the tricks in the video now. I also learned about two types of ball bearing yo-yos, responsive and unresponsive. A responsive yo-yo is the type I have and the type you probably think of when you think of yo-yos. It will come right back up if you just flick your hand while it’s spinning. Unresponsive yo-yos are able to do much more advanced tricks and can spin longer, but you have to do a special trick called a bind in order to make it come back up.

I also practiced and got pretty good at some of the tricks. I have completed “the sleeper”, “walk the dog”, “rock the baby”, and “around the world”. I tried “breakaway” many times but I can’t get enough spin on the yo-yo to make it come back to me.

I am going to try and find an expert to contact as soon as possible so I don’t run out of time like last time. I also need to adjust the string of my yo-yo as it’s a bit too long.

Week 1

For my first week I learned a lot about yo-yoing. There are three main types of yo-yos, fixed axle yo-yos, brain yo-yos, and ball bearing yo-yos. I have a fixed axle yo-yo which is the worst type for doing tricks. The first trick I going to learn is “the sleeper” which is where the yo-yo spins in place at the bottom of the string before yo pull it back up. The problem with fixed axle yo-yos is that it is almost impossible to make them “sleep”. The yo-yo I would like to get is a ball bearing yo-yo. They have an axle in the center, then a ball bearing around that, and the string goes around that so it can freely spin.

I also learned the proper technique for throwing a yo-yo and practiced it a lot. I used to simply drop the yo-yo and move my whole arm to get it to come up but I learned you need to throw it to get it spinning and if you just flick your it will come up on its own.
